Camilo Gómez Alzate

Lawyer and Colombian analyst, graduated from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana.

At the beginning of his career he served as General Secretary and as Manager of the Public Services Company of Bogotá. There, he was in charge of structuring the first legal privatization of public services that was made in Colombia. He was also the Private Secretary of Bogotá´s Mayor, Andrés Pastrana Arango.

He worked as a private consultant in the privatization of public services in Guayaquil (Ecuador), La Paz (Bolivia) and Panama City.

During the presidential term of César Gaviria Trujillo, Gómez Alzate was General Secretary of the Ministry of Development and later was appointed Superintendent of Societies, entity in which he managed to present the law that reformed the corporate regime (Law 222 of 1995). He was also in charge of expediting the account system of the time, which contained, for the first time in the country, a Single Account Plan. During his work at the Superintendence, he also achieved to systematize the financial information of the companies controlled and supervised by it.

Camilo Gómez later worked in Dinero magazine as the person in charge of the legal articles and as coordinator of the business rankings. He was also a consultant lawyer for some private companies.

In the presidential term of Andrés Pastrana Arango, he served as his Private Secretary and as High Commissioner for Peace. He was in charge of negotiations with the FARC and the ELN, and participated in the construction of the peace policy and in the design and implementation of Plan Colombia.

For more than 15 years he has been an advisor to private companies, as well as an adviser for resolving corporate conflicts.

In 2008, the Supreme Court of Justice nominated him as General Attorney of the Nation and in 2014 he was the Vice-Presidential formula of the then candidate for the Presidency, Marta Lucia Ramírez.

In the academic area, he has been professor at the universities of Salamanca and Alcalá de Henares in Spain. In Colombia he has taught at the universities Sergio Arboleda and Jorge Tadeo Lozano.

He was a partner of the firm Gómez & Solarte and Director of AGREMGAS, an important association that brings together traders and distributors of LPG.
